These things are amazing.I've been looking for a long time for good storage for my many nice teas. I ordered a set of these in my one of my initial rounds and while they were the perfect fit for my needs, I balked at the price when I went to order more. After trying MANY other brands, I eventually grit my teeth and ordered a bunch. Here's what makes them worth the expense:1. They're beautiful, high quality, and feel great in your hands. So many of the others I tried looked or felt kludgy, not something I wanted my collection of fancy teas to live in. They also feel nice and light, while still not seeming delicate and fragile.2. They take up a minimum amount of space for the storage capacity. Many of the other nicer looking and high quality brands have giant lids that take up a ton of space, or a locking contraption that constantly catch on other lids and require a gap between jars in the cupboard. They're also straight-sided, which means that you don't lose out on any capacity from a superfluous taper or slope.3. They have a nice airtight(ish) seal. I haven't done extensive testing, but the rubber-like gaskets on the lid slides securely a few centimeters into the jar which appears to seal it up well for my purposes. (Something like coffee has a much shorter shelf life, so you may need something with a big ol locking mechanism, but it's a sufficient seal for my purposes.)4. They really, for reals, stack. The lids have a slight lip that the bottom of the next jar rests securely within. AND all of the different sizes in this set stack on top of one another since they share the same size lids. This seems so simple, but has been really difficult to find in my search. Many stacking systems have some kind of snapping mechanism, which makes them difficult to take in and out of cupboards; some kind of giant lid contraption that takes up a ton of space,. Or they may have flat lids atop which you technically /can/ set the next jar, but it will be a precarious arrangement that inevitably leads eventually to the clang of jars tumbling to bottom of the cabinet if you're lucky, or a cascade hitting the floors and your toes if you're not.It seems that Brabantia doesn't sell these new in the US anymore, which is why they're so damned expensive. I wish they would either start distributing them here again, or that one of the other brands (I'm looking at you Guzzini and OXO) would design products that match my criteria. In the meantime, these are hands down the best food storage jars in class on the market.
Found these on Canopy, with one click I received them the following day. Simple, functional and worthy of counter space. Air tight was a must for me and I really don't care for the bulky thick look or lids with rubber moveable bands. These are seamless which makes them easy to wash without worry of water trapped in the lids. They don't take up a lot of room. Modular design makes them stackable with just enough lift so that they won't slide off. Describing the glass as "thin" tends to misled into thinking cheap or poor quality, that's not the case with these. The containers are lean and sleek & glass breaks. For me they are a perfect combination of design and functionality. Odd but there's a "10 year guarantee and service " on this product. Lastly love the fact that the packaging comes with a note to please recycle. Nice!
I wanted to return these, but the husband does the cooking, and he loves them. keeping them for the small stuff, but had to buy from a different collection for the bigger bulk items (sugar, flour, etc).Pros:they are LOVELY to look at- love the colors, the aspect ratio, and the shapeseal is better than expectedstacking is very neatinterchangeable lids!!! and matching footprintsso far, in one piece, no cracks/ chipsCons:the seal is not that greatthey are SMALLbigger size is $$$$$no BIG size (for flour, etc)seem a bit delicatepowdery items show along the gasketI saw on their website that they have a square version, that i REALLY want, but is not avail in the US. I even wrote to the company, but no luck.
I spent almost an hour at the container store checking out lots of competing products in this category and ended up not liking any of them for various reasons. I ended up order this product from amazon site unseen and liked them so much that I now have 5 sets of them. Here are the reasons I think these are so nice. They stack nicely. You can't stack a ton of them safely but you can stack them as they are shown in the product description just fine. The main part is glass and the lid is high quality plastic/silicone that showed zero sign of wear after going through the dishwasher. Importantly, the lid is also simple in shape and does not have the issue that certain other containers have where you would be afraid that gunk or water would build up over time or be hard to clean. The air seal seems good while also being easy to open. They also look nice (subjective). The glass is somewhat thin (don't worry you're not going to break it while holding it) and I doubt it would survive a drop but for me I find that an acceptable risk considering all the other pros.
I read so many reviews on glass containers I was nauseated. I finally just bought these and the Weck jars to try, and ended up returning the Weck (not because they weren't beautiful, just impractical). These don't quite feel as thick as "real" glass if you know what I mean but they are certainly not flimsy. These are petite, they're not going to fit tons of anything volume-wise. For my purposes that's fine. But they seal well, stack nicely, look clean and simple, and do well in the dishwasher. I read about items arriving broken for some... in my opinion, that's just the chance you take when you mail-order glass. I was happy to take the chance because of Amazon's great customer service, but mine were packaged in a box within a box and lots of padding, so everything arrived intact which was nice. I plan on adding more to the collection!
